Yarra River 2

The Yarra River is situated between the north coast villages of La Fillette and Blanchisseuse and it provides the primary source of water for these surrounding districts .The name Yarra may have derive from the Amerindian word meaning "ever-flowing"and this constant supply of energizing water originates from the Arima Blanchisseuse Watershed. It source comes from the foothills of  Morne La Croix as it meanders through the valley descending in a north western direction to interlock with other tributaries from the Yarra Forest Reserve. The erosion of the river bed and bank through the methods of solution, abrasion, attrition and hydraulic action have created a unique landscape consisting of magnificent pools, waterfalls and gorges.

The adventure begins with a 1 1/2 hour trek through the intricate Yarra Forrest to access the top of the river where the gorge begins. The return journey is downstream and  there is the option to paddle through the gorge or divert to a forest trail located on the left of the river  that bypasses the gorge..
