St Joseph to Maracas Bay .

One of the best hiking destinations in Trinidad is the Maracas St Joseph Valley .The landscape is surrounded by towering mountains , luch green valleys and numerous rivers and waterfalls.Within the perimeter of the valley there is the second tallest peak Mt El Tucuche (936 metres) and the Maracas waterfall at 91 meters is the tallest falls.Just over the hill on the northern side of the valley there is Maracas and Las Cuevas Bay ,to the west La Canoa Santa Cruz  and to the east the Caura Valley. Maracas St Joseph with it's Spanish heritage is also known for it's parang and the name Maracas means Shac Shac.

The trek to Maracas Bay will take 2 1/2 hours and is done as a circuit hike where you return via another route. The journey starts from  the top of the hill where the pitch road  ends in Loango Village and the trail ascends to the crest of  the watershed that separates the Maracas and Rincon Valley.Their is an iron cross landmark where it is believe a recluse baptist woman named Sister Betrice  is buried. 
The return trek over the steep  Maracas Bay mountain will take  at least1 1/2 hours and can be describe as one of the most energy consuming trails is pleasurable and worth while for  those seeking fitness.yet  it
