Saut D'eau

The hike is considered to be one of the toughest and the trek to the beach begins at the Morne Coco Road Gas Station in Maraval. The journey is through the parang and chive village of Paramin.Villagers are always delighted to see hikers making the steep climb and visitors are greeted with words of encouragement

.Paraminians are descendants of french farmers and many of them still speak patois today. The religion is mainly Roman Catholic and a  place of interest along the way is Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where their is a patois choir and a special patois mass on Carnival Weekend.During the Christmas season the sweet sound of parang music can be heard throughout the area and at carnival time the famous Blue Devils come from Paramin. It takes one and a half hours to hike to the top of the village at  approximately 2400 feet. Hikers have the option to take the jeep up if they find the road walk challenging but too experience the true beauty of the landscape the preference is to walk. Its like heaven on earth the magnificent views ,the cool breeze ,valleys upon valleys of tomato ,cabbage and chive and friendly villagers.

The descend to the beach takes another hour ,there is a small waterfall cascading from the hills into the sea and the name Saut D'eau is french for "water jump" ".The prominent statue of Saint Cion can be seen as a guardian overlooking the bay and anticipation of the steep return trek is in the minds of each hiker.
