Rincon Waterfall
Rincon Village is a secluded settlement on the North Coast Road just before Las Cuevas Beach. It's historical authenticity goes back to the years of Spanish rule from 1592-1783 who establish estates and gave it the name Rincón meaning "in a corner".This distinguish location was once used as a major crossword to donkey ride agriculture produce and supplies from remote villages on the North Coast Road to the old capital San José de Oruña. Today villagers earn their living mainly through the agriculture of ground provisions, fruits and vegetables but evidence of the once thriving cocoa estates still exist throughout the forest.
At 250 feet it is Trinidad's second highest waterfall and the uphill trek from the village will take about 1 1/2 hours to reach the base of the falls .The hike is rated moderate and can be done as a circuit whereby you ascend on the right side of the valley and return via an old estate trail that descends on the other side.Along the way you will come across another enchanting waterfall called Black Pool and distinct sounds of the noisy bell bird can be heard echoing throughout the forest.Reaching the top of the ridge there is a sharp descend to the falls but once you get there, you will have the option to swim in a large pool as well as go under the falls for a soothing massage.A fantastic forest hike and a wonderful place to visit. For details call Mario 749-2956 or www islandhikers .com.
