Mt Catherine

 

Mt Catherine at 1768 feet or 539 metres is the tallest peak  in the Chagaramas Peninsula ,It is located on the western side of Tucker Valley and over looks the Chagaramas Golf Course.At the summit there is a Circular Radar Antenna which  is used as a tracking station by the Airport Authority and can be observed as a landmark for several miles around.The tropical evergreen forest is a heaven for bird watchers and a variety of humming birds can be seen feeding on the beautiful flowers.In 1941 the area was leased to the Americans for 99 years to be used as a naval base and structures of World War 11 bunkers can be seen through out the forest.

The hike starts at the Chagaramas Golf Course and the climb to the summit is very steep and will take about 1 - 1 1/2 hours depending on your fitness.Along the way you will pass through a tonka bean plantation and the 180 metre Edith Falls is located further along the main trail.The return part of the journey is a 8 km down hill walk on the Mt .Catherine Road  followed by a 7km road walk to reach the Golf Course.
