Cyril Bay

On the North Coast between the villages of Paramin and Maracas Bay there are seven beaches . These beaches know as Saut D'eau, Mal Destomac, Negmawah,Peechon Cove ,Cyril, Lovers ,Balata and Maraquette  were all owned by French Farmers who cultivated  cocoa and coffee. In modern times it seems unimaginable but below the Maracas North Coast Road there once exist a network of bench trails, that linked the various beaches and plantations of La Vache Bay but due to soil erosion, landslides, overgrowth and no maintenance these beaches have now become impassable and are only accessible by hiking.

In the early 1900’s before the North Coast Road was constructed Cyril Bay was busting with activity as laborers maintained the various estates. it was considered the beach of choice since the distance to get there was shorter than Maracas Bay.

On Sunday 13th February’11 Island Hikers visit Cyril Bay. The hike begins on the  North Coast Road just before the Maracas Lookout and takes 45 minutes on a clear downhill trail. The return journey is uphill and would take the average hiker 1 hour .For more information go to www. Islandhikers.com or call Mario 749-2956
