Canari Bay is a hidden gem situated between the southern shores of Moruga and Guayaguayare. There are no roads to access this beach and the five mile walk through the vast shaded wetland will take approximately 11/2 -2 hours. The area surrounding the bay was once a thriving cocoa estate and It has been five hundred years since Columbus sailed through this shoreline yet it's magnificence is preserved .The beach uninhabited, is half mile long with silky smooth sand that radiates in the sunlight. The trees and shrubs that boarders the coastline are red mangrove, seaside mahoe, savonette jaune, almond ,coconut and prickly vegetation.
The journey begins at Pole #94 on the privately owned Petrotrin Main Field Road and the trek is mostly flat with some short inclines however hiking through this complex forest can be dehydrating and exhausting .It is advisable to bring along extra water,a hat for shade and mosquito repellent .A welcoming attraction to hikers is the presence of howler monkeys swinging in the tree tops, yet their numbers seem to be dwindling due to illegal hunting and yellow fever outbreaks.
