Situated 9 miles from Arima on the foothills of Trinidad tallest mountain El Cerro Del Aripo (3085 ft) is the small village of Aripo .The village specializes in the agriculture of watercress, christophine, coffee and cocoa.The name Aripo means a flat baking stone used in the production of bread and the villagers are descendants of Cocoa Panyols who moved to Aripo from Caura when the government decided to build a dam there .
Nestled in the mountains is the Aripo Cottage a nature paradise resort which is ideal for visitors wishing to spend a quiet vacation .
Below the cottage the Aripo River flows majestically through the valley creating magnificent limestone pools for bathing. A short 15 minute hike along the river reveals a small natural waterfall and pool. On Sunday January 8th, Island Hikers will explore this natural wonder to Blue Basin in Aripo. The group will assemble at 7.00am Corner of O,Meara Road and Churchill Roosevelt Highway Arima.
